Triplex Deconstruction & Renovation Progress in Little Italy

Here is a sneak peek into the Little Italy project which takes apart a triplex and reworks it into two dwelling units: a main portion for a family of four and a spacious two bedroom secondary suite in the basement. It is an ambitious project to update the building systems, to bring it up to today’s code, to rework the layout, and to bring natural light inside. Effectively, to do it all.

The project starts with deconstruction. Unlike typical demolition, Ouroboros Deconstruction takes apart the materials and either recycle, reuse, or resell it. Kitchen cabinets, toilets, vanities, tiles and laminate flooring were all either sold or given away. The original Douglas fir wall studs were transported to a warehouse to be recreated as benches. The most interesting is the fate of the flat panel doors. They went to the pro wrestling company Superkick'd that used the doors as props in their shows!

Only when there is no other option does it go into the bin. Demolition of a project of this size usually takes about 8 to 10 bins. Deconstruction only used one. An impressive feat in the renovation world.
